Derek W. Barnes

Hastings resident, Derek W. Barnes passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings.

Private family graveside service will be Wednesday, November 26th, 2014 at the Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw, NE. There will be no visitation; Dereks wishes were to be cremated. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Association.

Derek was born February 2, 1932 to Leslie and Mary Barnes in London, England. He graduated from high school in Yorkshire, England. He married Myra Stubley on February 3, 1955 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. He worked in Boston, Mass. For 15 years at Colonial Meat Packing moving to Crete, NE and retiring from Farmland Food in 1994 after 15 years. He then moved to Kenesaw, NE in 1998. In 2005 he moved to Hastings where he currently resided.

He is survived by his daughter, June E. Manthei and husband Larry of Hastings, NE, granddaughter Jillian of Lincoln, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Myra on April 2008.
