Delaine "Dee" A. Dunagan

June 2, 1931 — February 28, 2019

Delaine (Dee) Dunagan, 87, of Grand Island, Nebraska died peacefully at home on February 28, 2019 with family by his side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, M¬arch 7 at 11:00 am at GI Free, 2609 S Blaine Street, Grand Island, NE, with Pastor Paul Nauman and Pastor Dan Brenton, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, Nebraska at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, with the family receiving friends from 5:00–7:00 p.m.



Dee was born on June 2, 1931 in Alliance, Nebraska to Lloyd and Anna (Woodworth) Dunagan. He grew up in Albion, Nebraska and received his education at Albion High School, graduating in 1949. In 2006, he was inducted into the high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Drafted into the army in 1952, Dee served in Tokyo during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954.



Dee married Roselan (Paulson), on June 20, 1954 at the South Branch Church in rural Albion. They soon moved to Grand Island where Dee worked for Franzen Construction before starting his own business as a custom homebuilder. Known for his quality-built homes and attention to detail, Dee will always be remembered for his humility, strong work ethic, and devotion to God and his family.



Dee was a member of the GI Free Church where he served faithfully for decades in various roles including deacon, elder, superintendent of Sunday school, and built the church’s first parsonage. He constructed Grand Island’s Singing Christmas Tree where his wife served as the musical director for twenty years. Dee was also involved with Gideons International.



A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Grandpa Dee spent countless hours cheering on his grands and great-grands at their many activities. He loved camping, boating, water and snow skiing with his family. He also enjoyed playing golf in retirement.



Survivors include his beloved wife of almost sixty-five years, Roselan; their four sons: Tim (Cheryl, Grand Island, NE), Rick (Judy, Colorado Springs, CO), Jeff (Yanira, Dublin, CA), and Scott (Teresa, Olathe, Kansas), and eleven grandchildren Benjamin, Brian, Andrea, Christie, Kelly, Taryn, Jake, Cade, Eduardo, Roberto and Carlos, and nineteen great-grandchildren.



Preceded in death by: Parents Lloyd and Anna Dunagan, brothers Norvin Dunagan and Derald Dunagan, and sisters Helen Wolfe and Rita Wambaugh.
