Chris E. Meyer, 58 of Wood River, died Monday, November 9, 2015 at CHI Health, St. Francis, Grand Island, NE.



Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River, with the Rev. James Fandrey officiating. Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, Wood River or the Wood River Foundation. Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is caring for the family.



Chris Ellis Meyer was born September 25, 1957 in St. Paul, Nebraska the son of Vernon Oliver & Marilyn Ruth (Brittenham) Meyer. He grew up in Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School with the class of 1975. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he was a member of the University of Nebraska Marching Band in the trumpet section. He entered the United States Marine Corp, January 14, 1980, serving in Japan, Okinawa Island and the Philippines. He was stationed at Cherry Point, North Caroline before he was honorably discharged January 13, 1984. He returned to Wood River where he held various jobs.



He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion and DAV.



He enjoyed music and painting.



Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Marilyn Meyer of Wood River, two brothers and sister-in-law, Randy Allen Meyer of Lincoln, NE, Craig Robert & Sharon Meyer of Phoenix, AZ, nieces & nephews, John & Melissa Diebel, Robert & Susie Meyer, Matthew Meyer, Kyle & Elizabeth Meredith, Mark & Michelle Hanson, Shawn & Amanda Hanquist, Gabriel Meyer, great nephews and nieces, Hunter & Hudson, Andrew & Jackson, Mason & Madison, Hailey & Mikayla, aunts & uncles, Clayton & Nancy Meyer of Grand Island, NE Jim Brittenham, Lee Brittenham, Norma Cummings all of Oklahoma along with numerous cousins and a host of friends.



He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon, nephew, Keith Falldorf, grandparents, Fred & Sophie Meyer, Ellis & Gladys Brittenham.
