Bonnie Mae Hansen

April 20, 1928 — February 19, 2022

Bonnie Mae (Jepson) Hansen, 93, of Kearney, NE died Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney.



Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the Apfel Funeral Home, 1123 W. 2nd St., Grand Island. The Rev. Bill Pavuk will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul, NE at 1:30 P.M.



Bonnie Mae Jepson Hansen was born April 20, 1928, at Cushing, NE to Orval G. and Mae (Ludington) Jepson. Bonnie grew up in Cushing and graduated from Cushing High School in 1946. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone in St. Paul as an operator and later as the business office management as a cashier, and secretary office assistant at Hansen Insurance.



On October 10, 1948, she married Albert “Mervin” Hansen at Cushing, NE. To this union, they had four children. They lived in Grand Island, NE, Newton, IA, Holdrege, NE, St. Paul, NE and later moving to Grand Island, NE. Mr. Hansen preceded her in death in April 2018. Bonnie then moved to Kearney, NE.



Bonnie was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother who enjoyed sitting on the bleacher while watching her kids and grandkids play sports. She especially loved her great-grandchildren. She was a passionate gardener who had a green thumb and loved showing off her many flowers and could name every one of them.



Bonnie volunteered in many capacities, the St. Francis Medical Center Gift Shop in Grand Island, at Methodist Memorial Homes in Holdrege, as a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher, Cub Scout Leader, and Assistant Girl Scout Leader.



She especially enjoyed her hot coffee and collecting birdhouses and elephants, playing cards and was an avid bowler.



Bonnie was a member of Eastern Star, was involved in numerous church circles within, Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul. and St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.



Survivors include her son Ted (Deb Nelson) Hansen of Kearney, daughter Teresa (Rod) Rozanek of Lincoln, son David Hansen of Wood River and son Derrin (Vicki Harris) of Bellevue and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Mervin” Hansen; an infant son: her parents, Orval and Mae Jepson; sister JoAnn Roberts; brothers, Richard Jepson and Larry Jepson.



Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
