Alta E Bruce

Alta Bruce, 83, of Grand Island, NE passed away on Sunday, May 1st, 2022, in her home surrounded by family.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, May 6th, 2022, at Third City Christian Church with Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery along with a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to The Grace Foundation and The Central Nebraska Humane Society.



Alta was born on November 7, 1938, in Eureka, KS to Earl J. and Dorotha (McCombs) Walford. Alta grew up and was educated in Eureka, she graduated in 1956. She went on to cosmetology school and opened her own salon in Eureka.



She married Gary Falldorf; the couple moved to Grand Island where they had three boys. While in Grand Island she worked as an admin assistant for various companies.



Alta then married Roger Bruce on June 9, 1972. To this union was a daughter, Kim. The couple lived in Grand Island where she worked as an admin assistant for 22 years starting at Northwest High School before moving on to Westridge Middle School. Once she retired, her and Roger spent time as snowbirds in Texas and Arizona.



She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Saddle Club. She enjoyed weekends at Johnson Lake, traveling across the country, family vacations in Branson, golfing, fishing, tending to her flowers and trying new recipes using herbs from her garden. Especially important to Alta was time spent with her kids and grandkids, following them to their various activities.



She is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Fred Falldorf of Grand Island, Robert (Irene) Falldorf of Grand Island and Kim (Tate) Wallin of Omaha; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; former daughter-in-law Melissa Murdock; sisters-in-law, Jean (Raleigh) Bolli of Burwell and Jim (Charlotte) Bruce of Cary, NC.



She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Doug Falldorf; grandson, Keith Falldorf; six brothers: Edgar, Dick, Phillip, George, Joe and James; and her sister, Frances Gardner.
